How is it?
A place in the forest that serves as a living habitat and teacher in its own right—a place where everyone, regardless of age, from zero to 21 (and even into their 100s and beyond… we all keep learning, really), can learn whatever fascinates them, with complete freedom and the absolute responsibility that freedom entails. Guided 100% by inner motivation, we take the next joyful step, providing the tools that allow children and teens to develop their natural and innate curiosity and creativity. We do everything we can to care for and nurture the purest, most beautiful treasure that each of us is at birth—with everything that makes us unique and irreplaceable—without trying to change it and, of course, without breaking it. Trusting in goodness, gift, and service.
Who's accompanying?
Adults who serve as role models—people who are full of life and open to the “impossible,” yet down-to-earth, and who are already living out their dreams and purpose, and are therefore an inspiration simply by existing. College graduates, gardeners, musicians, and apprentices who continue to develop their dreams and purpose day in and day out, from morning to night, with a humble and beautiful attitude, radiating sincere joy, an underlying serenity even when they’re excited, and authenticity… walking hand in hand with the truth of who they are. And human, with their mistakes, of course! And fixing them right away and learning from them, discovering the treasure that the situation has brought. A way of life that allows us all to remain inspired about how to be and how to act simply by observing… simply because of what’s in the air, because of the energy that each person and the place itself radiate.
Are there classes and exams?
There are no “classes” or exams; there is the opportunity to connect with people of all ages in a spirit of sincerity, care, and empathy, and to create and discover together all the wonders of the world—whether by helping those who already know or by creating from scratch to explore from there—always taking care of natural resources and resources of all kinds... There’s the chance to be alone, reading peacefully, immersed in whatever world fascinates you most at any given moment (History? Science? Literature?...)... and the chance to enjoy the company of wonderful experts in chosen fields whom we invite and welcome to spend a few days or months with us... There’s the chance to travel to the workshops, offices, factories, hangars, etc., of incredible people we admire and to become part of their lives, learning all the details about their field and the world around them... And, of course, there’s the chance to travel to remote tribes to share in their lives and make friends in idyllic natural settings, among cultures and languages of immense richness that retain a deep respect for themselves, their ancestors, and the vibrant environment that nurtures and sustains them… sacred languages that open our minds and souls.
Does one learn everything that is necessary?
Everything necessary for life is happening here: edible wild plants and cultivated ones grow; wild animals pass by very close by, and others—not quite so wild—provide us with eggs; and we all have a lot to learn from them and from ourselves. There are streams where we can create pools for swimming, and trees and forests where we can get plenty of exercise and gather fruit and firewood... There’s a workshop with tools to create practically anything you can imagine. There are magical spots for dreaming and building cabins and other shelters. There are homes to care for and maintain so we can stay comfortable in both winter and summer. There are books carefully selected for their quality—both in content and aesthetics…
Because there is beauty. There’s a beautiful mare treated with the utmost respect. There are enormous trees that envelop you and heal you just by being near them… and if you hug them and ask them questions, they speak to you. There are pursuits that are each person’s passion and that provide the abundance needed to live happily, support the family, and take care of everything. There are pregnancies and hens incubating eggs, births of animals and women… there is life taking shape and being born… There are other lives to bid farewell to, to embrace, and to feel close in a different way… There are friends and family members—photographers, physicists, mathematicians, philosophers, massage therapists, athletes, dancers, painters, writers, chefs, musicians, potters…—eager to come and share all the details of what they do so well and what is so useful for body, mind and spirit.
How many students are there?
Depending on the time of year, there are more or fewer participants, but the ratio is always one adult for a maximum of three children, since many parents stay to participate as well—as they are, after all, part of the “living school” they’d always dreamed of and that we build together.
Babywearing allows parents or other loved ones to continue carrying out their daily tasks perfectly well while happily keeping their little one close, and the calm and focus of the children and teens who grow up this way not only allow us to continue with our responsibilities but, for the most part, support and enrich them—all while they’re learning… All of this is part of the Continuum that has worked for thousands of years. Why change something that works?
And what about legality and academic certification?
Everything you need is in place legally—both to give you peace of mind in your day-to-day life and to provide you with the educational certificates and degrees that allow you to attend any university in the world—as well as the tools that enable you to pursue any other path of further education in whatever fascinates you. You have the option to pursue, in full compliance with the law, the path that makes you feel most alive, whatever that may be.
